Professional gum treatment and control

We detect and treat gingivitis and periodontitis to preserve your natural teeth. Periodontal diagnosis, ultrasonic scaling, curettage and personalised maintenance at our Santutxu clinic.

Why are healthy gums essential?

Periodontal disease (gingivitis and periodontitis) is one of the most common mouth diseases and the leading cause of tooth loss in adults. It is a bacterial infection that destroys the tissues supporting the teeth — gums, bone and fibres — progressively and usually silently.

At Ibarreta Dental we carry out a complete periodontal diagnosis, assessing the depth of the pockets with a careful probe and taking complementary X-rays. Then we design a personalised treatment plan to stop disease progression.

Frequently asked questions
about periodontics

Periodontitis cannot be completely cured, but it can be controlled and stabilised. With proper professional treatment and rigorous daily hygiene, the disease is stopped from progressing and the supported teeth can last for many years.
For patients with a healthy mouth, once or twice a year is usually sufficient. For patients who have been treated for periodontitis, we recommend more frequent maintenance sessions, every 3–4 months, to prevent relapse.
Bleeding gums are always a warning sign of inflammation. It can be an early sign (gingivitis) or already indicate periodontitis. Either way, it is important to have an assessment to prevent the disease from progressing further.
